Stair Styles and Budget – Coastal Staircases

November 30, 2016

When choosing your staircase, there are many things to consider.

  • What is my budget?
  • Do I want the stair to be a statement piece in my home?
  • What look am I trying to achieve? Modern, contemporary, traditional etc.

See a list of stair types below:

BUDGET

  • Closed cut-stringer style. Quick and easy and won’t blow your budget, also great as a temporary stair for trades access. Constructed from CD structural ply for carpet/flooring (by other).

MID RANGE

  • Closed full-stringer staircase: It has a closed rise that allows you to build cupboards underneath for extra storage. Full-stringers also don’t allow the tread and riser shape to be seen when viewed from a side angle.

  • Open full-stringer staircase: Open rise staircases give a room the impression of being more open and larger inside letting light in and not being obstructive. Full-stringers also don’t allow the tread and riser shape to be seen when viewed from a side angle.

  • External Staircases: Typically made from hardwood timbers such as Jarrah, Merbau, Spotted Gum or treated pine. This staircase is generally an open style staircase to prevent excess moisture and water pooling on the treads. It is advisable for each tread to be designed in 2-pieces to avoid timber bowing.

HIGH END

  • Central Stringer: The name says it all, one stringer down the centre of the staircase to give a modern contemporary style. Made from timber or steel depending on the look you want to achieve. This stair makes a great statement piece for your home.
  • Cantilevered: Its assembled with steel hidden in the wall which then gets plastered around the steel plates. Tread sleaves made from timber then gets sleeved over the top of the steel to create the illusion that the treads are floating from the wall. This stair makes a great statement piece for your home.
  • Steel Spiral staircase: Great for a secondary access to the home as they require a smaller footprint and take up less space, giving their clients additional space to their outdoor areas. Each steel spiral staircase is individual can either have a galvanised or powdercoated finish. Cal also be installed internally with finish options.
  • Geometrical staircase: Generally the focal point of a house, with its sweeping curves and flowing lines it becomes a piece of art to enhance any building.
