Squeaky, Creaky Staircases – Staircases Geelong and the Sufcoast

June 1, 2017

Staircases should never creak or squeak if they are installed correctly and fitted with the appropriate amount of glue blocks and wedges. If it does occur it could be due to a number of issues and may not be the staircase at all.  In the event that creaking occurs, it can be an easy fix in most cases with additional or replacement wedges and glue blocks.

For new staircases it is recommended that you don’t walk on your staircase for at least 24 hours after installation to allow the glue to completely dry.

Overtime timber will expand and contract, creating gaps which in turn allows for squeaks or creaks to develop. Maintaining your staircase regularly will slow down the aging process. This includes regulating the temperature, moisture or direct sunlight on the staircase. Ensuring you are not cleaning your staircase with steam mops, wet mops or excess water. A damp microfiber cloth is ideal for this situation.

If  you have notice any squeaks or creaks in your new staircase, please contact the office immediately via email so we can add a few extra glue blocks/wedges where required.
